Mrs. Weigel
I am very grateful for my experience with Mrs. Weigel. She is a kindergarten teacher at the new Lincoln Elementary in Lincoln, ND. I spent many hours working in her classroom; observing, assisting, and taking part in various activities. I was fortunate to observe the art co-teaching with her and her co-teacher. This was very interesting, I learned a lot about how they worked together to best meet the needs of the students in her classroom. Watching the co-teaching dynamics and the way they ran their full classroom of about 42 students truly opened my eyes to the world of what being a teacher really means. I sat in on many PLC meetings. From this, I became intrigued at how well the teachers all worked together. I also was able to sit in on conferences. This part of my experience showed me how important it is to build good parent teacher relationships. I feel lucky and thankful to have had so much experience in a kindergarten classroom and my time with my mentor Mrs. Weigel.
Mrs. Bassingthwaite
This semester I had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Bassingthwaite on a series of four workshops, on developmentally appropriate practice, for early childhood educators in North Dakota. I was very excited to get to help her with the process of gathering information, researching, and helping plan activities for the sessions. before the workshops I went with her to meet with early educators in Bismarck to spread the word of the upcoming events and to get some input on what the preschool teachers of Bismarck want to learn. I look up to Mrs. Bassingthwaite and her work, I feel very blessed to have had this opportunity with her. She has taught me many things. Caring about your work is one thing, but she takes it a step further. I learned that if I want to see a difference in our education I have to take action. My mentor experience was very inspiring and has confirmed my need to be an early childhood educator.
